Kids Against Violence Day

June 24, 2010

Close to 500 of our kids will participate in our annual Kids Against Violence Day. The program will feature a variety of programs and instruction from law enforcement officials, a dunk tank, face painting and a cook-out provided by the Ninety-Nine Restaurant of North Andover. The day will begin around 10 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m. Target is one of the major sponsors for this much-needed program.

  • Registration for AM Flight:  7 to 8:00 a.m.  Shot gun start at 8:00 a.m.
  • Registration for PM Flight:  Noon.  Shot gun start at 1:15 p.m
  • Helicopter Drop:  1 p.m. on the driving range
  • Cocktail Hour/Open Bar:  6:30 p.m.
  • Dinner:  7 p.m.
  • Live Auction:  8 p.m.

Annual Meeting

May 27, 2010

Close to 100 Officers and Directors attended the Annual Meeting on May 27th.  William DeLuca, Jr. was elected Chairman of the Board and James D'Angelo was elected President.  Nine new Governors were elected.  There are 37 Governors who serve on the Board.  Twenty-five new Directors were elected to the Board of Directors.

The Auction is the major fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. We rely upon the generosity of individuals and businesses to donate an item (product, sporting event tickets, vacations, unique items, etc.). Over 400 of the most influential individuals north of Boston attend this event and bid on the donated items.

A very special part of the Auction is when the reality curtain is lifted. Reality indicating the part when the audience realizes that the kids at the Club are poor, their families are struggling and many are coming from extreme negative social environments.

The Robertson Award was originated for those people who do great things for our kids and/or the Club where the possibility of public acclaim is very slight if it exists at all. The Billy Robertson Award is named after the Club’s Director of Operations who has been working the Club since 1977.

Did You Know?

In the past 10 years 1,300 girls have participated in our teen-pregnancy prevention program and only two (0.2%) have become pregnant as teenagers.
