BGCL Exceeds $35,000 in Fourth Annual Take Action Walkathon

October 16, 2017

More than 200 youth members, their families, staff members, alumni, volunteers and other supporters raised $35,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence at the fourth annual Take Action Walkathon on October 15.

The two-mile walk along the Merrimack River began and ended at the club, followed by family-friendly activities including music, face painting, a rock climbing wall, games and refreshments. The fundraiser supports the club's annual operating budget for critical programs focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles and community involvement for more than 4,000 youth members at two locations.

Markus Fischer, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, thanked the team leaders, walkers and sponsors including Cambridge College of Lawrence, New Balance Foundation, Reading Cooperative Bank, Tuscan Brands, Asahi/America, Dunkin' Donuts, Bank of New England, Woodworth Motors, Atcom, Zingales Realty and Launch. The Keystone Club, a leadership development group for high school members of the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, volunteered at the event.

"Each and every one of our participants raised critically needed funds, and also helped us set an example of healthy living for our club kids," Fischer said. "We're grateful for the generous support of those who walked, fundraised, donated, volunteered or cheered us on in our mission of changing kids' lives."
