BGCL Promotes Stephanie Sullivan to Director of Athletics

May 22, 2017

Stephanie Sullivan, an eight-year employee, has been promoted to director of athletics.

In this role, she oversees the New Balance Healthy Living Club, directs in-house sports leagues, and coaches the seventh and eighth grade girls' basketball teams.

Sullivan had been the girls' physical director since joining the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management from Sacred Heart University in 2008.

Sullivan said she is proud to be considered a role model for students, just as athletic coach Vicki Parady-Guay - who was also her basketball and field hockey coach at Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston, N.H. - mentored her and ultimately inspired her career choice.

"Sports have always been a big part of my life, so I know first-hand the difference they can make in terms of developing self-confidence and a range of other life skills," said Sullivan, noting how the club uses sports as academic motivation for youth members who must keep up their grades in order to compete. "A side benefit is the camaraderie that develops between teammates who bond over common interests. Sports not only keep our kids engaged in positive behaviors, but they also lead to friendships that can last a lifetime."
