Cuddle with A Dog You Say?

October 04, 2021

Mikey is our latest Club edition! Mikey is a trained therapy dog who comes in once a week with his owner, April from 4:30-5:30 pm. Although, he normally stays longer due to his immense popularity!

April Valete is a School Psychologist at the Andover High School and she adopted Mikey when he was just 9 months old from an animal shelter. Mikey is trained through Therapy Dogs International, a volunteer organization dedicated to training dogs and their owners for the purpose of doing programs at nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and wherever therapy dogs are needed.

The kids love when Mikey visits because they are able to do their homework with him and read to him. Each child gets five minutes of 1:1 time to walk, play, chat, or relax with Mikey and April in the homework room.

The experience is very therapeutic for our members, especially our High School members who are struggling with college applications and returning for in-person classes.

One of our members, Chelsi says, “Mikey is a good dog and he understands when we talk to him. I really like him. He is very cute, funny, and licks a lot!”
