Runner Sought to Fundraise for BGCL in 2018 Boston Marathon

September 21, 2017

Applications are being accepted for a runner who will commit to fundraising for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence (BGCL) in the 2018 Boston Marathon.

Two guaranteed entries were awarded to the club as part of John Hancock's Non-Profit Marathon Program, through which $34.2 million was raised for more than 200 organizations in 2017.

Last year, the BGCL Boston Marathon team of Lawrence Police Detective Dean Murphy (who crossed his 14th Boston Marathon finish line in 3:51:44) and club supporter Katie Ciciarelli (who completed her first Boston Marathon in 4:10:23) raised $26,000 for critical programs focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, and community involvement for more than 4,400 youth members.

The club is seeking a runner to join Dean, who has already committed to the 2018 BGCL Boston Marathon team. The minimum fundraising commitment is $7,500, but team members are expected to exceed that goal. They receive a custom BGCL singlet or t-shirt for easy spotting on race day; regular training tips; one-on-one support with fundraising efforts, social media promotion, and event planning; raffle and prize incentives for fundraising events; and an easy-to-use website to track fundraising progress.

The online application is available at The deadline is November 3.
