Tuscan Brands Donates Christmas Dinner and Gifts to Youth Members

December 19, 2019

As last year's Christmas party got underway at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, Tuscan Brands founder Joe Faro - a longtime club volunteer and donor - smiled as the 650 youth members joyfully anticipated their holiday dinner followed by Santa's arrival to distribute donated gifts.

Then Faro caught sight of the hot dog entrée.

"Not all these kids are as fortunate as we are, but every child deserves to have a fantastic Christmas dinner," said Faro, who donates hundreds of presents each year, in addition to sponsoring the club's auction, golf tournament and alumni hall of fame fundraisers. "Our culture at Tuscan Brands is to give back, so I said from here on out, these kids are getting a proper Christmas dinner. It's not just us; many volunteers make this event special for the kids. It's an incredible experience, and we're proud to be part of it."

In fact, the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence received more than 1,500 presents and gift cards this holiday season from individuals and companies including New Balance and Planet Fitness, which also made a generous donation. Tuscan Brand's holiday dinner, which consisted of fresh bread, salad, homemade pasta, meatballs and cannoli, was served by board members, longtime donors and volunteer groups such as Marshalls.

In addition to annual holiday dinners, youth members are served supper each night as part of their $40 annual membership fee. However, many Lawrence families rely on scholarships in this city in which nearly one-third of the population lives below the poverty level. Individual and corporate donors bridge the gap year-round between the actual club operating cost, which exceeds $3.4 million.

Faro, whose Sicilian father is an alumnus of the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, said he is determined to ensure that club kids will enjoy the holidays and beyond.

"The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence is very special to my family, and as our company continues to grow, our giving grows," he said. "We love doing it, and we're blessed to be able to do it at this amazing place."
