Lawrence Boys and Girls Club

Sports & Recreation

Our sports and recreation programs develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, teamwork, discipline, appreciation for the environment, and social skills.

Sports Leagues

Members are placed on teams according to their age. Teams compete weekly in various sports and activities. During these activities, staff members stress the importance of punctuality, teamwork, cooperation, fair play, and hard work. Leagues include basketball, team handball, gym hockey, whiffleball, soccer, flag football, and dodgeball.

Swimming Pool

The pool is used for a number of programs focused on water safety. Additionally, we provide free swim, lessons, water polo, water basketball, and water games. The swimming pool is open all year and is always a popular place among our kids.

A community volunteer teaches karate classes to both boys and girls once a week. Boys and girls receive uniforms, belts, professional instruction, and a chance to enter competitions.

Games Rooms

These rooms offer table and board games for kids to play. Games include pool, bumper pool, air hockey, foosball, and ping-pong.

Summer Program Activities

From the beginning of July to the middle of August, the club operates its summer program activities. Older members serve as counselors to coach and organize activities for younger members. All members are placed on teams which compete in softball, whiffleball, water polo, and kickball. Members also participate in special programs like computers, arts & crafts, swimming lessons, and many more fun and informative activities. Lunch is served free to all members.

ABA Camp

The Academic Basketball Awareness (ABA) Camp, held at the Brooks School, is one of the premier basketball camps in the state. Led by Bert Hammel, formerly head men's basketball coach at Merrimack College, this free camp offers 150 boys and 75 girls intense basketball training provided by some of the top coaches in the area. Campers also attend classes in academics, leadership, and life skills.

Fitness Center

Our weight room features the latest in body-strengthening and cardio equipment. Our older youth members are able to work out safely with assistance and guidance from staff and volunteers.
