A Special Evening of Recognition
On Thursday, June 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence came together for a special evening dedicated to celebrating the hard work, growth, and achievements of our members.
Awards Night was an invitation-only event for members receiving awards and their families, creating an intimate and meaningful atmosphere where each young person could be recognized and celebrated by the people who support them most. Throughout the evening, program directors from each area presented awards to members who stood out for their achievements, effort, leadership, and dedication.
Guests also enjoyed dinner catered by CocoRay’s, owned and operated by Raymond Gonzalez, a proud Club alumni who continues to give back by catering many of our events.
Honoring Youth of the Year
The evening began with the reintroduction and recognition of Rauz O., who was reawarded her Youth of the Year honor. Rauz’s journey set an inspiring tone for the night, showing members what is possible when they work hard, stay committed, and believe in themselves.
Executive Director Markus Fischer also shared remarks with members and families, emphasizing the importance of working hard, always striving to do your best, and using Youth of the Year as a reminder of the incredible potential within every Club member. His message encouraged youth to see themselves not only for who they are today, but for who they can become.
Celebrating Our Members’ Achievements
Following the Youth of the Year recognition, program directors from each area presented awards to members who stood out for their achievements, effort, leadership, and dedication.
For our members, being recognized in front of their families, peers, mentors, and Club staff is more than just a proud moment. It is a reminder that their hard work matters. It shows them that their growth is seen, their accomplishments are valued, and their potential is limitless. Watching other members receive awards also serves as motivation and inspiration, encouraging everyone in the room to continue striving toward their goals and believing in what they can achieve.
The evening included a special performance by our Dance Academy, whose energy and talent added to the celebration and reminded everyone of the creativity, confidence, and dedication our members bring to every program area.
Awards Night Honorees
Every award presented throughout the evening reflected a different part of the Club experience — from creativity and academics to leadership, service, sportsmanship, wellness, and personal growth. Together, these honorees represent the many ways our members continue to show up, challenge themselves, and make their Club community proud.
These moments of recognition are a powerful reminder of what happens when young people are surrounded by encouragement, opportunity, and people who believe in them. Each name celebrated on Awards Night represents a story of effort, progress, and possibility — and a future that continues to grow brighter.
Recognizing Dedicated Volunteers
The evening also recognized two dedicated volunteers whose active involvement and impact continue to make a meaningful difference at the Club.
Mark Coleman was awarded the Jeannie Melucci Award in recognition of his commitment to our members. In addition to his leadership role as Senior Vice President of Global Sales for Catania Oils, Mark is a valued Golf Committee member and mentor who generously shares his time, experience, and encouragement with our kids.
Melissa Farrah Bouzianis was awarded the Paul Cronin Award for her dedication to supporting Club members on their educational journeys. For the past nine years, Melissa has advocated for our members and recruited education consultants to provide one-on-one college guidance, helping students recognize their strengths and prepare for bright futures.
Once a Club Member, Always Family
Throughout the evening, one message was clear in every speech, especially for our graduating members: the Club is family.
Graduation is not goodbye. Our members will always have a place here. They were encouraged to come back, stay involved, keep us updated, and remain connected to the people and programs that helped shape their journey. The Club is here for them beyond graduation, ready to provide support, resources, guidance, and encouragement as they continue navigating the real world.
Looking Ahead with Pride and Purpose
Awards Night was more than a celebration of individual accomplishments. It was a celebration of perseverance, community, and belonging. It was a reminder that every achievement, big or small, is part of a much larger journey — one filled with possibility, purpose, and the unwavering support of the Club family.
We are so proud of every member who was recognized and grateful to the families, staff, alumni, volunteers, and supporters who continue to help our youth grow, succeed, and believe in their futures.
