This summer, the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence has been giving local teens even more ways to stay active, connect with friends and enjoy their summer through DCR Teen Nights.
Held Tuesday through Thursday evenings from 6–9 p.m., Teen Nights provide a safe and welcoming place for Club members ages 13 and up to spend their summer evenings. Each night, approximately 60 teens come through our doors to take part in activities throughout the Club.
Teen Nights are especially important during the summer because the Club’s daytime summer programming is for children ages 7–12. While teens are not able to attend the Club during the day, DCR Teen Nights give them dedicated evening hours to come back to the Club, spend time with friends and take part in activities designed for them.
There’s something for everyone. Teens can head to the gym for basketball and volleyball, work out in the weight room, or spend time in the dance room, where they can take part in bachata classes and free choreography and dance sessions.
For those who prefer gaming, our game room and computer areas are open throughout the evening, with computers, video games and gaming tournaments adding a little friendly competition to the night.
And, of course, no Teen Night is complete without food. Dinner is served each evening, giving teens a chance to sit down, refuel and spend time together before heading back to their favorite activities.
More Than Just Something to Do
DCR Teen Nights are about more than filling a few hours during summer break. For teens, having a safe and positive place to go in the evening can make a meaningful difference.
Funding provided by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) helps make these nights possible by supporting the additional costs of keeping the Club open and operating beyond regular summer hours, including staffing and meals for our teen members.
By extending the Club’s hours during the summer, Teen Nights give our older members a place where they can be active, try something new, connect with friends and caring staff, and simply enjoy being teenagers in a supportive environment.
Whether they come to play basketball, learn a new dance, compete in a gaming tournament or just spend time with friends, Teen Nights give our teens a space of their own and an opportunity to continue spending time at the Club throughout the summer.
We are grateful to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) for its support in helping us provide these meaningful summer evenings for Lawrence teens.
